Fucked Up Live: I’ll never forget this.
I sat outside an 21+ venue dying because I couldn’t see Coalesce or Fucked Up. I talked to Jonah, Fucked Up’s drummer and told him about it. He was really nice, and well groomed. He told me that he was really sorry for this and that he would try to make it up to me. So he called Damian, and I got to meet him and he was so fucking cool. He said he would put me and all my friends on the guest list for the show in St. Louis. So we drove from Kansas City there and while it was weird and almost last minute and we were in danger of having no gas at all we did it. Because everyone else got to see them in KC except me, who sat outside doing fucking nothing.
When we got to St. Louis, time was so slow and I couldn’t wait any longer. When 7:30 came, we headed to The Firebird. What a fun place, great sound, and it’s an all ages venue. Everything Went Black opened and they were really great. I don’t remember the name of the other two bands that opened but they were really great. I went outside and saw Damian there and he was so happy I made it. He offered me and my friend to smoke with him so we did and that was pretty fucking awesome. I asked him a question, “Could you guys play Serve Me Right? It’s my favorite song on the new album” “I haven’t done that yet, so I have to read some lyrics” The anxiety is building inside of me was killing me. So when the last band finished playing I moved to the front. There they were, came onto stage to soundcheck. I have to say it felt like the longest soundcheck in the world. The place was filled with some dicks but that’s expected.
They all finished soundcheck except for Damian, he never came on stage. They all exited the stage and ten minutes later they came back. In all it’s glory. “HELLO EVERYONE, IT’S EASTER SUNDAY. GOD BLESS HAHAHAHA” “GUNS AND ROSES FUCKING SUCK.” said Damien. “WE ARE FUCKED UP” and that place exploded. Opening with Queen of Hearts, everyone was singing along and it was so beautiful. The show was loud and hot just like I expected and it was really fucking good. The stage presence they all have is legendary. There was never ever a dull moment, the way Damian would come down to the floor and hug people and give them the mic was just fun. It was so good. When Under My Nose started playing it was just so good and he would just come to me and hand me the mic from time to time and GODDAMN THAT WAS SO FUCKING AWESOME.
At this time he took off his shirt and he was just jumping around like having the time of his life. WHERE THE FUCK IS THE OTHER SHOE?! He dedicated various songs to life experiences like getting pulled over because of marijuana and just for having fun. He was really positive about a lot of stuff and shitting on Guns and Roses was hilarious. I have to say that Fucked Up is one of those bands that makes friends. Me and my best friends bonded over listening to this band, shame they had to go home and couldn’t come with me. They played at least half of David Comes To Life. As “Turn The Season” ended, immediately Running on Nothing started playing. and man I can’t believe everyone was still singing a long. “Remember My Name” then “Slanted Tone” and just my god it was so amazing. As the song ended, taking a short break.
He looked at me then pointed and said “THIS SONG IS JUST FOR YOU MAN.” Fucking “Serve Me Right” started playing and I almost died because holy shit that is the coolest thing. I was singing along so hard I couldn’t speak and got really sick days after. There was nothing like this feeling, my body needed this, I’ve been going through some shit. I was really sad before and got better. But this solidified that my life, is worth every second. When Fucked Up stopped playing and left. They came back on again and played Son The Father and dedicated it to that day, Easter Sunday.
When the set ended Damian grouped hugged everyone in the audience. He was everyone’s friend and I loved it. I talked to him and told him “Hey man, you were fucking amazing thank you so much.” He thanked me for everything and for driving to see them. So here it is:

I’d like to thank everyone in Fucked Up for giving me the experience of a lifetime and making me, finally come to life.
